Installation Process

The file you get from our server is "budget.dmg.gz". It is a gzipped (that is, compressed) version of a disk image file. StuffIt Expander can un-gzip the file, leaving you with "budget.dmg". There are other applications that can un-gzip the file too, but StuffIt Expander is free and is included with Mac OS X.

Double clicking on the "budget.dmg" file should cause the disk image to mount and appear next to your hard drive icon(s). The disk image is named "Budget". You may be able to configure StuffIt Expander to automatically mount the disk image after decompressing the gzipped file.

If the disk image's window does not automatically appear once the disk image is mounted, you will need to double-click the disk image itself. This works just like double-clicking your hard drive icon.

The disk image contains:

  • Budget.app (may appear as just "Budget") - The application package. Copy this to your Applications folder or wherever you keep your apps.

  • Read Me Folder - This is a folder containing the Read Me file translated into various languages (including English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, and Polish). Check this out for general information about Budget, such as a version history, info on the registration process, etc.

  • Sample.budget (may appear as just "Sample") - A Budget document file with some typical envelopes set up. You can use this as the basis of your own Budget document, or just to play with before starting your own. If you want to use this file, copy it to your hard drive so you can save changes to it.

  • Sample2.budget (may appear as just "Sample2") - A Budget document file with two bank accounts and some typical envelopes set up. You can use this as the basis of your own Budget document, or just to play with before starting your own. If you want to use this file, copy it to your hard drive so you can save changes to it.

  • Budget License.rtf (may appear as just "Budget License") - This is a copy of the End User License Agreement for Budget.

  • Demo Folder - This is a folder containing a few other appliations which may be of interest.
